About Us

NanoDx was incorporated in December 2015 by its two founding members who are extremely passionate about research and strongly believe that affordable healthcare is a right of every citizen. Since then, NanoDx has dedicated itself to the research and development of rapid and affordable point-of-care diagnostics based on cutting-edge nano-biotechnology and microbiology tools and platforms. The journey started with the founders receiving a Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) seed fund from BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India in 2013 to establish the proof-of-concept of their technology. In this, a prototype point-of-care testing device for Gram-negative bacterial sepsis was designed and demonstrated. In 2014, an Indian patent was filed for the idea and since then, there is no looking back. A major milestone in the device development came through the first international seed grant, the Nesta Longitude Discovery Award in 2017, to fight antimicrobial resistance. This put the company on the international map and gave it not only the right impetus to accelerate innovation but also the confidence that it was heading in the right direction.

The device has now moved from the laboratory to a large government hospital in Delhi for a third party evaluation in a planned pilot clinical study. We hope to complete this pilot study by end of 2019 and initiate a full clinical trial for USFDA’s 510k and DCGI’s (Govt. of India) approval. A second patent has also been filed in India, US and Europe. The team has also been fortunate to receive a follow up Boost Grant Award from the Nesta-Longitude-BIRAC team in Dec 2018 and an IMPRINT grant from the Govt. of India in Mar 2019. As a result of these support and recognitions, the team has managed to establish active collaborations with premier institutions across India and abroad, for further development of the IP-protected value-added technology, product development and evaluation. We are now seeking active partnership with global leaders to take our technologies forward. The main focus areas of the company are infectious diseases, pharmaceuticals and life sciences and its core competency lies in nanotechnology, microfluidics, clinical biochemistry, biomarkers and molecular diagnostics.

Our Team

Venkataraman Sritharan

Founder & Director

Sritharan is a trained clinical and microbial biochemist with expertise in molecular biology and biomarkers. Formerly trained both in UK (PhD at Univ. of Hull, UK) and in USA (Post-doc at Harvard School of Public Health), he brings with him a strong academic (20 years) and industry (> 23 years) experience in R&D of healthcare diagnostics and biopharmaceuticals. He heads the molecular diagnostics and biomarkers lab in a premier hospital in Hyderabad since 2009.

Shalini Gupta

Founder & Technical Advisor

Shalini is a Chemical Engineer trained in the US (PhD at North Carolina State Univ.) and UK (post doc at Imperial College London) and has over 12 years of experience in nano bio-materials, in vitro diagnostics and biosensors and bioassays research. Her domain expertise lies in soft matter and colloidal science. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering department at IIT Delhi where she heads a large interdisciplinary research group working on cutting-edge problems related to advanced biomedical applications.

Ashish Bhatia

Director

Ashish is an IIT-IIM graduate who is passionate about bringing honesty and trust back in the healthcare sector. Ashish’s personal experiences in accessing healthcare in India made him understand the necessity of disruption in this sector. He is the founder of another healthcare startup LabsAdvisor that provides transparent and convenient diagnostic services. Before starting LabsAdvisor, Ashish had an exciting management consulting career in Europe and India. He has also set up a hospitality company, Itmenaan Lodges, which runs multiple sophisticated lodges at multiple locations in India.

Uday Koli

Lead Research Scientist

Uday Koli is a lead research scientist at NanoDx Healthcare. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. His doctorate research area focussed on the development of nucleic acid based drug delivery systems for cancer and infectious disease treatment. He is skilled at evaluating the biological efficacy of nano drug delivery systems, nanoparticle synthesis and characterisation. He has also derived important conclusions through papers emphasising on animal and bacterial cell cultures and in vitro bioassays. Uday’s research interests lie in exploring nanobiomaterials for biomedical applications and development of biosensors for diagnostic applications among others. Prior to starting PhD, he has also worked with Cipla and Super Religare, giving him wide exposure in the corporate world.

Tarun Adarsh

Research Scientist

Tarun is a research scientist at NanoDx Healthcare. He is a graduate in Microbiology (BSc Hons.) from Ram Lal Anand College (University of Delhi). He pursued two years of postgraduate coursework (MS-PhD) in Biological Sciences from IISER- Thiruvananthapuram, including six months of research work. He is skilled in tools and techniques of molecular biology, analytical biochemistry, and microbiology. He has co-authored two publications in the Journal of Materials Research and the Journal of Non-Crystalline solids in collaboration with CGCRI-CSIR. He has also contributed to the DU Innovation project poster for the AMI conference, Guwhati (2017). His research experience in JNCASR as a Summer Research fellow (2016) captivated his interest in interdisciplinary sciences, especially on energetics and cancer research. He has been bestowed with the Best Student Award (Science) and dedicated NSS volunteer award during his graduation and is highly motivated towards research in applied sciences which reflects his strong desire to serve the society.
